Ad detail for Norcross Greeting Cards. Ladies’ Home Journal. May 1957.
The Norcross Greeting Card Company was founded in New York City in the mid 1920s by Arthur Norcross. The family-owned and operated company had a very distinct look in their greeting card designs, and it’s been said that they were the first to produce Valentine’s Day cards. The company was known to be very family-oriented, and treated their employees as such. When Arthur Norcross passed away in 1968, the company went through four more owners before declaring bankruptcy in 1981 and ceased operations.
At some point in their history, Norcross built an archive of antique greeting cards and other products such as ribbons, decorations, and labels which they added to their collection. This collection is now preserved by the Smithsonian’s American History Museum in Washington, DC.
